Overview
Approved is made by Kalpiko Labs, a one-person indie app studio. This policy explains how Approved handles your information. It applies only to the Approved mobile app for iOS and Android — not to any other app or website.
If you have any questions, email us at support@kalpikolabs.com.
Data we collect
Approved has no accounts and collects no personal data for itself. Your photos and your compliance results are stored only on your device. We have no analytics, no advertising, and we do not track you across apps or use advertising identifiers.
One thing does leave your device — the photo you are checking. To perform the compliance check, each photo is sent once to an AI service. That is described in the next section.
How data is used & the compliance check
To check a photo against a country’s published requirements, that single photo — together with the text specification for the check — is sent once to an AI service provided by Anthropic (the Claude API). This happens once per check, and nothing else from the app is sent.
We ask for your consent in the app before the first photo is ever sent. The check only runs when you choose to check a photo; nothing is sent in the background.
Retention: Anthropic auto-deletes the API inputs and outputs (your photo and the result) within 30 days, and they are never used to train AI. The results themselves are stored only on your device.
Data sharing & third parties
Other than sending each photo once to our AI provider (Anthropic) to perform the compliance check you requested, we do not share your data with third parties. Approved contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Data retention & deletion
On-device only. Per-photo delete in History, “Clear all data” in Settings, and uninstall — all remove everything locally. Provider-side copies auto-expire within 30 days.
Permissions used
Approved requests only the permissions it needs, and only when a feature requires them. The purpose strings below mirror what you see in the app:
- Camera — to take the passport photo. No microphone is used and video is never recorded.
- Photo library — to let you pick an existing photo via the system picker; no broad library access.
- Face ID / biometrics (optional App Lock) — handled by the operating system; no biometric data is collected or transmitted.
If you decline a permission, the related feature is simply unavailable; the rest of the app keeps working.
Children
Approved is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. It is a standard utility — not a health, finance, or kids app.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Approved handles data, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app.
