Overview
Sprout is made by Kalpiko Labs, a one-person indie app studio. This policy explains how Sprout handles your information. It applies only to the Sprout mobile app for iOS and Android — not to any other app or website.
If you have any questions, email us at support@kalpikolabs.com.
Data we collect
Sprout has no accounts and collects no personal data for itself. Your plants, watering logs, and photos stay on your device. We have no analytics, no advertising, and we do not track you.
There is one thing that leaves your device: to identify a plant, the single photo you choose to scan is sent to an AI service for identification. That is described in the next section.
How data is used & plant identification
When you scan a plant, one photo you capture (or pick) — together with a fixed identification prompt — is sent to an AI vision service provided by Anthropic (the Claude API) to identify the plant and return its care information.
This only happens when you actively choose to identify a plant: when you take or select a photo to scan, that single photo is sent. Nothing is sent in the background, and no other content from the app is sent.
The photo is used only to generate that one identification response. It is not retained by us or by our AI provider for this purpose, is never linked to your identity, and is never used for advertising or tracking. The information that comes back (the species and its care details) is stored only on your device.
Data sharing & third parties
Other than sending that single identification photo to our AI provider (Anthropic) to perform the identification you asked for, we do not share your data with third parties. Sprout contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Data retention & deletion
On-device only; “Delete all data” in Settings wipes plants, logs, and photos and cancels notifications; uninstalling removes everything. No accounts to delete.
Because your data lives on your device and the identification photo is not retained, there is nothing for us to hold or delete on our side.
Permissions used
Sprout requests only the permissions it needs, and only when a feature requires them. The purpose strings below mirror what you see in the app:
- Camera — to photograph a plant for identification.
- Photo library — to let you pick an existing plant photo to identify, via the system photo picker.
- Notifications — to send gentle watering reminders.
- Face ID / biometrics (App Lock) — to optionally lock the app locally.
If you decline a permission, the related feature is simply unavailable; the rest of the app keeps working.
Children
Sprout is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Sprout handles data, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app.
