Overview
Unpile is made by Kalpiko Labs, an indie app studio. This policy explains how Unpile handles your information. It applies only to the Unpile mobile app for iOS and Android — not to any other app or website.
Unpile is a productivity and focus tool. It is not a medical or health app: it does not diagnose, treat, or make clinical claims about any condition.

Data we collect
Unpile has no accounts and no login. We collect no personal data for ourselves. Your photos, your missions, your XP, and all of your progress are stored only on your device. There is no analytics, no advertising, and we do not track you across apps or use advertising identifiers. Unpile shows no ads.
Only a few things ever leave your device: the pile photo you choose to analyze, the pile category you picked (if any), a random device identifier the app creates on first launch, and — if you subscribe to Pro — your purchase information, which is handled by Google Play or the App Store and our subscription manager (see “Purchases & subscriptions” below). The random identifier exists only to enforce fair usage limits and connect your subscription to your device — it is not your advertising ID, and it is not linked to your name, email, or any account (Unpile has none), so it cannot identify you. Nothing else — no profile, no other data — is transmitted. Everything else stays on your phone.
The AI mission breakdown
To turn a messy pile into 4–6 small missions, the single pile photo you choose — together with a short text prompt that includes the pile category you picked, if any — is sent to our own small relay server (hosted on Cloudflare), which forwards it to an AI service provided by Anthropic (the Claude API). The relay exists for two reasons: it keeps the AI access key out of the app entirely, and it enforces fair usage limits. It does not store your photo. The service returns a list of missions, which is stored only on your device. Nothing else from the app is sent.
We tell you in the app, before the first photo is ever sent, exactly what will be shared. The analysis only runs when you choose to snap and break down a pile; nothing is sent in the background.
Retention: the photo and the returned missions are not retained server-side beyond the provider's short processing window — Anthropic deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, and may retain them longer only where required by law or flagged by its automated safety systems — and they are never used to train AI.
Fair usage limits. To keep the AI feature affordable for everyone, our relay server keeps an anonymous counter of how many AI breakdowns each random device identifier has used. This counter contains no photos, no mission content, and no personal information — it is a number attached to a random ID.
Anthropic's data-handling terms. How Anthropic processes the photo and prompt sent through the Claude API is governed by Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service, which state that Anthropic does not train its models on content sent through the API. The specifics of how long inputs and outputs are kept are described in Anthropic's API data-retention documentation.
Purchases & subscriptions
Unpile Pro is an optional subscription purchased through Google Play or the App Store. Your payment details — card numbers, billing address — are handled entirely by Google or Apple and never reach us.
To know whether your device has an active subscription, we use RevenueCat, a subscription-management service. RevenueCat receives your purchase receipt from the store and the same random device identifier described above — never your photos, missions, or any content from the app. RevenueCat's handling of this data is described in their privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Google Play or App Store account settings; deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Data sharing & third parties
We do not sell your data or share it with anyone for advertising. The only parties that process anything from Unpile are: Anthropic, which receives each pile photo you choose to analyze (see above); Cloudflare, whose infrastructure runs our relay server, so your AI requests pass through it in transit; and — only if you subscribe to Pro — Google Play or the App Store, which processes your payment, and RevenueCat, which manages your subscription status (see above). Unpile contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and no cross-app tracking or advertising identifiers.
Data retention & deletion
Everything you create in Unpile — photos, missions, XP, progress — lives on your device only. Uninstalling Unpile removes all of it, and inside the app you can clear it at any time: Settings → “Clear all data”. Provider-side copies of an analyzed photo auto-expire within the provider's short window (within 30 days). Two small exceptions: the anonymous usage counter described above stays on our relay server (so free usage limits can't be reset by reinstalling), and if you subscribed to Pro, purchase records remain with Google/Apple and RevenueCat per their own policies. Neither contains anything you created, and the usage counter cannot be linked to you.
Permissions used
Unpile requests only the permissions it needs, and only when a feature requires them. The purpose strings below mirror what you see in the app:
- Camera — to photograph the pile you want to tackle.
- Photos / media — handled through the system picker, so you can take a new photo or optionally pick an existing one. Unpile does not request broad access to your photo library.
- Notifications — for gentle, optional reminders; never naggy.
Unpile does not use your location. If you decline a permission, the related feature is simply unavailable; the rest of the app keeps working.
Children
Unpile is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. It is a standard productivity utility — not a health, finance, or kids app.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Unpile handles data, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app.
